St Ives is a competitive badminton club and enters 14 teams in the Cambridgeshire leagues:
In addition to league matches St Ives also enter teams into a number of knock-out and cup competitions. Team selection is done by the club selection committee at the beginning of each season during August and September. Details of the players selected for each team can be found in the individual team pages. Team SelectionThe club operates a selection committee that is responsible for selecting players for all of the teams. Individual team captains are provided with their players for the season and are expected to use those players for every match when available. We do ask members to put matches in their diaries and commit to playing every game wherever possible. Each league normally comprises six teams and therefore 10 matches (5 home and 5 away). League rules allow a player to play 12 matches per season in each category (mens, ladies, mixed, vets). Players can therefore 'play up' to a higher division if required, however if they play more than 2 games in the higher league they will have to miss games in their normal team. It is club policy that once a player is selected for a team they are selected to play for that team for the complete season regardless of whether a new member joins the club part way through the season. The exception is cup competitions where the club only enters one team. In this case the club will select the best players from the club available for each match. |
